Founded in 2015 by oenologist Nikos Karatzas, Oenops Wines is a pioneering project based in the cool-climate region of Drama. Rather than owning vineyards, Karatzas collaborates with passionate, eco-conscious growers across Greece, managing approximately 50 hectares of old, dry-farmed vines of indigenous varieties. The grapes are sourced from historic PDO and PGI regions, investing in winemaking in Drama under the team’s close supervision. This approach allows Oenops to produce authentic, minimal-intervention wines that express the true character of each grape and its unique terroir. The winery employs alternative vessels such as amphorae and concrete tanks, alongside spontaneous fermentations and gentle handling, reflecting a commitment to precision and purity. Under Karatzas’s leadership, Oenops Wines continues to shape a new narrative for Greek wine on the world stage.
