Mavropatrino
Mavropatrino is an extremely rare red grape from the Ionian Islands, now cultivated by only a handful of winemakers. Once nearly forgotten, it stands out for its aromatic finesse and light, expressive character.
Despite its name (“mavro” meaning black), it often produces lightly coloured wines with vibrant aromatics. On Lefkada’s stony, calcareous soils, it develops notes of red berries, citrus, herbs and gentle floral tones. It is known for its natural freshness, bright acidity and supple, juicy texture.
Handled gently in the cellar, Mavropatrino can produce refined rosés or very light reds that are highly drinkable and expressive. It is a grape of nuance and elegance, focused on purity and drinkability rather than power.
