Once again this year, the Vassaltis estate, one of Santorini’s most talented producers, has been honored by two of the most influential critics in the wine world: James Suckling and Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate.
Before the end of the year, their evaluations confirmed what we already knew: the quality of Vassaltis wines is simply remarkable.
Of the 13 wines submitted, all scored 90 points or higher, placing them in the outstanding category for both publications.
Recognition that confirms Santorini’s excellence
For Vassaltis, these results validate his commitment to expressing each vintage with precision, purity, and respect for the volcanic terroir of Santorini—even in the most challenging years, such as 2023.
For us, as passionate importers, it is a source of immense pride to be able to share these wines of rare authenticity with the Belgian public, the fruit of meticulous work and a modern vision of Greek tradition.
The rating system: the benchmark for leading critics
James Suckling and Robert Parker use the famous 100-point system, which has been the global benchmark since the 1980s.
Suckling’s rating system is clear and structured:
- up to 15 points for color
- 25 points for the nose
- 25 points for structure
- 35 points for overall quality
Above 90 points, we enter the realm of wines of “exceptional complexity and character” — a distinction that Vassaltis achieves with flying colors.
