Mandilaria is a southern Aegean grape and among the most deeply coloured red Greek varieties.

The variety of names that it has been attributed with serve as testimonials to the extent to which this late-harvest variety has spread throughout Greece and the Greek isles in particular.

As early as the time of Pausanias (2nd century AD), Mandilaria was already used in the production of the renowned Ariousios oenos from the island of Chios.

Today, as tannins can be fierce, it is largely blended in a great number of reds, rosés, and dessert wines with a strong identity and personality, prone to aging.
