Robola

Noble white variety with special quality characteristics and high expression potential identical to the island of Cephalonia.

The variety gives the name to the region’s PDO, Robola of Cephalonia. Actually, this is the only appellation for dry wines in Greece that refers to a single variety and not a region“, according to Yannis Karakasis MW.

Robola is cultivated mostly in steep terraces, on a semi-mountainous zone. The soils of the Aenos massif are rich in limestone but poor in organic matter, which gives the Robola its incomparable elegance. This is why the Venetians called it “vino di sasso” (the wine of the stone).

Although the name sounds similar, there is no connection to the Italian variety Ribolla Gialla cultivated in northeastern Italy.
