Amyndeo

The Amyndeo plateau is located in northwestern Macedonia, on the border with Albania and the Republic of Northern Macedonia. This is one of the most important wine-producing areas in Greece for cool climate and sparkling wines.

Grape growing has been going on here since the ancient times.

This isolated area is a beautiful region located at 650 metres above sea level, dotted with lakes and mountains, where the climate is close to continental with cold, snowy winters and cool summers. The average maximum temperature in July is 23ºC. A cool wind that cools the vineyards blows throughout the year.

The choice of vineyard sites is critical. The vineyards are mostly located on alluvial soils which have a high proportion of sand and are therefore immune to phylloxera.

The region is dedicated to Xinomavro, which expresses itself very differently compared to other typical regions for this grape variety in northern Greece. Amyndeo Xinomavro is lighter, fruity, floral with softer tannins.

The Amyndeo plateau is also an ideal place for sparkling wines, which are predominantly produced from Xinomavro. This indigenous grape variety exhibits good tannins, high acidity, low pH and persistent as well as captivating aromas.
