Aidáni

Vigorous vine, well suited to hot and arid islands, Aidáni is widely planted in the Cyclades. It does well in seaside vineyards thanks to the vines’ thicker bark. It is an early-ripening variety, susceptible to powdery and downy mildew.

Although varietal labels are increasing, Aidáni is mainly used in blends contributing delicate floral aromas and buttery texture, while softening Assyrtiko’s high alcohol and bracing acidity. In Santorini, winemakers use it to produce both dry and semi-sweet wines, including the lush dessert wine, Vinsanto. It may feature as up to 25% of the dry Santorini PDO wine.
