Agiorgitiko

Agiorgitiko is a compound word meaning “St George’s” grape probably referring to an older name of the ancient city of Neméa.

Agiorgitiko is one of the two most important noble red grape varieties and the most cultivated all over Greece. Currently referred to as “multidynamic”, since it is capable of producing a large range of styles, from refreshing rosés to concentrated sweet wines. However, it is most well-known for its fragrant, crowd-pleasing dry wines.

Agiorgitiko is native to Nemea region and the benchmark variety of Nemea PDO. It is also cultivated in other areas of Peloponnese, Central Greece and Macedonia. It also takes part in many PGI denominations and is blended to produce higher in complexity wines.
